And Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, said that when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, supplicated and raised his hands, I saw the whiteness of his armpits. And Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, raised his hands and supplicated: "O Allah! I am free from what Khalid has done."

Hadith Commentary:
Khalid (radi Allahu anhu) killed the people of Banu Khuzaymah during a military expedition.
Although they were accepting Islam by saying "Saba'na, Saba'na" (We have adopted the new faith),
Khalid (radi Allahu anhu) did not understand and killed them. Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) expressed intense displeasure and declared disavowal before Allah of what had occurred, as is mentioned here.

Hadith Commentary:
In a narration from Anas radi Allahu anhu, it is reported that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would not raise his hands while supplicating, except in the supplication for rain (du'a al-istisqa), in which he would raise his hands so high that the whiteness of his armpits would become visible.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Istisqa, Hadith: 1031)
From this hadith, some scholars have deduced the ruling that hands should not be raised in supplication except in the case of istisqa.
Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah, in refutation of their view, has presented this chapter heading and the aforementioned hadith, clarifying that in the supplication for rain (istisqa), there is a specific manner of raising the hands: the backs of the hands are towards the sky and the inner sides towards the earth.
With this manner, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would raise his hands to an exaggerated extent, to the point that they would reach the level of his mouth.
This does not mean a general negation of raising the hands.
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has referenced numerous ahadith in which it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam raised his hands while supplicating.
