Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary: (1) The cessation of the connection between the body and the soul is called death. This separation sometimes occurs only outwardly, as in the state of sleep; due to this similarity, sleep is called the companion of death. And sometimes this separation occurs both outwardly and inwardly—this is the well-known death. In the mentioned hadith, the term "death" has been applied to the state of sleep. (Fath al-Bari: 11/137) (2) At the end of the hadith, Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah has provided a linguistic explanation of a word from the Noble Qur’an in relation to "resurrection" (nushur).
