Hadith 6274

Narrated Bishr: as above (No. 290) adding: The Prophet was reclining (leaning) and then he sat up saying, "And I warn you against giving a false statement." And he kept on saying that warning so much so that we said, "Would that he had stopped."

Hadith Commentary:
This hadith has already appeared in the Book of Manners, and in other narrations as well, it is reported that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would sit reclining, as is found in the narrations of Dhamam ibn Tha'labah and Samurah (radi Allahu anhuma).
His repeated statement regarding falsehood was to clarify its evil.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The gravity of false speech and false testimony was repeated multiple times by the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam so that their evil and reprehensibility would become clear. The fact that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sat reclining is also mentioned in other hadiths, as narrated by Samurah bin Jundub radi Allahu anhu, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sitting while reclining on a cushion. (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi, Al-Adab, Hadith: 2771) (2)
Some physicians have considered this (reclining while sitting) to be harmful to physical health; therefore, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah refuted them and established its permissibility, stating that there is no harm in doing so according to the Shari‘ah. (Fath al-Bari: 11/80)
