Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Ihtiba’ and qurfusa’ both have the same meaning.
This is a particular manner of sitting.
It expresses humility, modesty, and submissiveness.
Hazrat Qaylah radi Allahu anha narrates that when she saw the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in this state of humility and modesty, she began to tremble out of fear.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Adab, Hadith: 4847)
Her condition was due to the fact that if the outward sitting of such a great personality as the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is such a manifestation of humility and submissiveness, then what must be his inner state? But how deprived we are of this blessing.
(2)
However, sitting in this manner during the Friday sermon (khutbah) is prohibited.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, As-Salat, Hadith: 1110)
Because sitting in this way is considered a sign of carelessness and inattentiveness, and it can also lead to drowsiness.
And Allah knows best.
