Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The most awful (meanest) name in Allah's sight." Sufyan said more than once, "The most awful (meanest) name in Allah's sight is (that of) a man calling himself king of kings." Sufyan said, "Somebody else (i.e. other than Abu Az-Zinad, a sub-narrator) says: What is meant by 'The king of kings' is 'Shahan Shah.,"

Hadith Commentary:
In reality, the Sovereign is the Lord; servants cannot be sovereigns. Those people who call themselves sovereigns are, in the sight of Allah, extremely contemptible and vile servants. That is why, in today’s democratic era, there are no sovereigns left.
Allah has destroyed them all.
Today, everyone is on the same level, but nowadays, members of parliament and assemblies have taken their place.
Except whom Allah wills.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The true Owner of all dominion, that is, the King of kings, is the exalted Being of Allah Ta'ala, and those people who call themselves "Shahanshah" (King of kings) are extremely insignificant in the sight of Allah.
Similarly, any name that has the same meaning as this is also forbidden, such as naming someone "Ahkam al-Hakimeen" (the Most Just of Judges), "Sultan al-Salateen" (Sultan of sultans), or "Amir al-Umara" (Commander of commanders).
(2)
The noble scholars have, based on the above construction, also declared it impermissible to call or be called "Qadi al-Qudat" (Judge of judges), although some people of knowledge have a lenient view regarding this.
And Allah knows best.
