Hadith 6071

And Mujahid said that in (Surah Al-Hijr) «ثاني عطفه‏» "Maghrur" means. That is, one who turns his neck out of arrogance.
Narrated Haritha bin Wahb: Al-Khuzai: The Prophet said, "Shall I inform you about the people of Paradise? They comprise every obscure unimportant humble person, and if he takes Allah's Oath that he will do that thing, Allah will fulfill his oath (by doing that). Shall I inform you about the people of the Fire? They comprise every cruel, violent, proud and conceited person."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
According to this hadith, boasting, arrogance, and pride are signs of the people of Hell, meaning that there will be an abundance of the arrogant in Hellfire.

(2)
Hafiz Ibn Hajar has mentioned two types of pride (takabbur):
➊ The one whose good deeds are greater than the virtues of others; Allah’s attribute “Al-Mutakabbir” (The Supreme, The Majestic) is in this sense, that all of Allah’s actions are good and praiseworthy.
➋ In this context, if someone, out of affectation, tries to make his actions appear good, even though in reality they are not so—this is the meaning of “arrogant” (mutakabbir) in the hadith.

The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is:
“Allah sets a seal upon the heart of every arrogant, tyrant.” ()

If someone considers himself great in his heart, this is called “kibr” (conceit, ‘ujb), and if this evil manifests on the limbs and body parts, it is termed “takabbur” (arrogance).
