Hadith 6062

Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I never heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say about any person who walked on the earth that he is from the people of Paradise, except for 'Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him).
Narrated Salim: that his father said; "When Allah's Apostle mentioned wh at he mentioned about (the hanging of) the Izar (waist sheet), Abu Bakr said, "O Allah's Apostle! My Izar slackens on one side (without my intention)." The Prophet said, "You are not among those (who, out of pride) drag their Izars behind them."

Hadith Commentary:
Letting the lower garment (tahband, pajama) hang below the ankles is blameworthy for men because it is a sign of arrogance.
If, at times, someone's lower garment happens to hang in this manner without any intention of arrogance, then that is another matter; however, it is necessary to avoid this habit.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) once forbade letting one's garment hang down (below the ankles) while walking and pronounced a severe warning regarding it. Upon this, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radi Allahu anhu) clarified his own situation, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), praising him, said:
"You are not among those who act out of arrogance."
(2)
From this hadith, it is understood that if a person knows something about another, there is no harm in praising him so that others may become aware of his virtue and greatness, and thus show him honor and respect according to his status and rank. Accordingly, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned the distinguishing qualities of other noble Companions, as is mentioned in numerous ahadith. Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has mentioned them in the Book of Virtues (Kitab al-Manaqib).
In any case, if there is no fear of someone being subjected to tribulation (fitnah), then there is no harm in praising him according to one's knowledge.
