Hadith 5997

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle kissed Al-Hasan bin `Ali while Al-Aqra' bin H`Abis at-Tamim was sitting beside him. Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them," Allah's Apostle cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Kissing one’s children is an expression of natural love and affection. It is permissible for a father to kiss his daughter, as has been mentioned in other hadiths. However, it has been observed that some people avoid this, which is undoubtedly unnatural.

➋ Having mercy upon Allah’s creation is a means of attaining the mercy of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.

Benefit:
In this hadith, there is an admonition for the hard-hearted person who does not show love to his children. The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to show great affection to his grandsons, and would even kiss them—Subhan Allah.
From this, it is also understood that there is no harm in kissing one's own children, grandsons, granddaughters, nephews, and nieces when they are young; rather, this is a sign of love for them.
