Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Although the palms of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) were full of flesh, they were not hard; rather, they were extremely delicate and soft, as related by Sayyiduna Anas (radi Allahu anhu), who stated that the palms of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) were softer than silk and brocade.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Manaqib, Hadith: 3561) (2)
Some scholars have objected to Imam al-Bukhari (rahimahullah), claiming that the aforementioned ahadith have no connection to the chapter heading, since nothing is mentioned in them regarding the blessed hair of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). However, this objection is not based on reality, because Imam al-Bukhari (rahimahullah) did not present these ahadith as evidence for any legal issue; rather, his intent is to clarify the differences among the transmitters from Sayyiduna Anas (radi Allahu anhu) through his student Qatadah, and this difference does not affect the authenticity of the hadith. Moreover, in some chains of these ahadith, there is mention of the hair of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
Under this chapter heading, the primary objective is to describe the characteristics of the hair of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam); other discussions are subordinate to this purpose.
