Narrated Hisham's father: `Aisha (addressing me) said, "O son of my sister! The Prophet never missed two prostrations (i.e. rak`at) after the `Asr prayer in my house."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The beginning of this incident was from the house of Umm Salamah (radi Allahu anha), and then its continual performance took place in the house of Sayyidah Aisha (radi Allahu anha). This is the reason that if, on any occasion, an inquiry was made regarding these rak‘ahs, she (Aisha radi Allahu anha) referred to Umm Salamah (radi Allahu anha) and did not herself take full responsibility regarding them. Thus, Abdul Aziz bin Rufai‘ says: I saw Abdullah bin Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) performing two rak‘ahs after ‘Asr, and in this matter, he used to refer to Aisha (radi Allahu anha), that whenever the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) came to the house of Aisha (radi Allahu anha), he would certainly perform them, and this has been narrated by Aisha (radi Allahu anha) herself. (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Hajj, Hadith: 1631) Abdullah bin Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) used to be extremely diligent in performing these two rak‘ahs after ‘Asr. Thus, when an inquiry was made regarding this action of his, it was found that although Abdullah bin Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) referred to Aisha (radi Allahu anha), the original, well-investigated report was with Umm Salamah (radi Allahu anha).

(2)
There are two detailed narrations related to this in Musnad Ahmad (6/299 and 6/303). From these detailed narrations, it becomes clear that the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) performing two rak‘ahs after ‘Asr and his continual practice upon it is to be understood as a particularity (khasiyyah) specific to him. However, Abdullah bin Zubair (radi Allahu anhu), considering it as an example and model, adhered to this practice throughout his life. From a narration in Sunan an-Nasa’i, it is known that Abdullah bin Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) used to perform them before sunset. (Sunan an-Nasa’i, al-Mawaqit, Hadith: 582) And Allah knows best the reality of the matter.
