Hadith 5767

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: Two men came from the East and addressed the people who wondered at their eloquent speeches On that Allah's Apostle said. Some eloquent speech is as effective as magic.'

Hadith Authentication: [
Jurisprudential Explanation:
➊ There are some preachers whose speech has an effect like magic. People are greatly influenced by their sermons. Such preachers should, instead of narrating fabricated and baseless traditions, present the Noble Qur’an, authentic ahadith, and sound reports.
➋ The accusation of tadlis (concealment in transmission) against Zayd ibn Aslam is incorrect, and he is free from tadlis. See my book [الفتح المبين فى تحقيقي طبقات المدلسين، ص 22]
➌ If there is a special program, then two or more individuals may also deliver speeches.

Hadith Commentary: It is understood that magic (sihr) does indeed have some reality to it; however, its practice or commissioning has been declared absolutely impermissible (haram) in Islam.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not praise every eloquent speech that has a magical effect, because in some speeches, falsehood is presented in the guise of truth through enchanting eloquence. However, he praised such eloquence in expressing what is in the heart that is used to establish the truth.
(2)
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah’s intent is that although practicing or commissioning magic is forbidden and unlawful, nevertheless, it does have some effect.
The position of those who deny the reality of magic is highly questionable.
And Allah knows best.
