Hadith 5742

Narrated `Abdul `Aziz: Thabit and I went to Anas bin Malik. Thabit said, "O Abu Hamza! I am sick." On that Anas said, "Shall I treat you with the Ruqya of Allah's Apostle?" Thabit said, "Yes," Anas recited, "O Allah! The Lord of the people, the Remover of trouble! (Please) cure (Heal) (this patient), for You are the Healer. None brings about healing but You; a healing that will leave behind no ailment."

Hadith Commentary:
Abu Sa'id radi Allahu anhu narrates that Jibril alayhis salam came to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was feeling unwell, and Jibril alayhis salam performed ruqyah (spiritual healing) over him with these words: "In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah cure you." (Narrated by Muslim)

Those who perform ruqyah should use such prescribed and transmitted supplications, and it is necessary to avoid self-invented supplications.

It is also understood from this that performing or having ruqyah done with prescribed supplications is Sunnah, and indeed, performing or having ruqyah done with prescribed supplications has a tremendous effect.

Hadith Commentary:
In this hadith, Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu has attributed the mentioned ruqyah (spiritual healing) to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has established from this hadith that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed ruqyah.
Those who perform ruqyah should do so using the prescribed (masnun) supplications.
Performing ruqyah and having it performed with the prescribed supplications is a Sunnah.
Undoubtedly, there is a tremendous effect in performing and receiving ruqyah in this manner.
In this regard, one must always avoid self-invented ruqyah and fabricated supplications.
The prescribed supplications possess an alchemical effect within themselves.
