Narrated Khalid bin Sa`d: We went out and Ghalib bin Abjar was accompanying us. He fell ill on the way and when we arrived at Medina he was still sick. Ibn Abi 'Atiq came to visit him and said to us, "Treat him with black cumin. Take five or seven seeds and crush them (mix the powder with oil) and drop the resulting mixture into both nostrils, for `Aisha has narrated to me that she heard the Prophet saying, 'This black cumin is healing for all diseases except As-Sam.' Aisha said, 'What is As-Sam?' He said, 'Death."

Hadith Commentary:
Death comes at its appointed time, therefore there is no cure for it.
Black seed (kalonji), that is, black cumin, is also very beneficial for boils and abscesses.
Once, one of the noble wives (azwaj mutahharat) had a boil on her finger, so the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) asked, "Do you have cumin (zeera)?" She replied, "Yes." He then said, "Place the cumin on it."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ When visiting a sick person, if one knows of a tried and tested remedy for the illness, it is permissible to inform the patient’s family. However, one should not advise the use of an unproven medicine.
➋ Among the various methods of treatment, one method is to administer medicine through the nose.
➌ The benefits of black seed (kalonji) are numerous. Imam Ibn al-Qayyim rahimahullah has mentioned many benefits concisely in “Zad al-Ma‘ad.” Dr. Khalid Ghaznavi has shed more detailed light on this subject in his writings on Prophetic Medicine (Tibb al-Nabawi). Studying these books is beneficial.
