Hadith 5655

Narrated Abu `Uthman: Usama bin Zaid said that while he. Sa`d and Ubai bin Ka`b were with the Prophet a daughter of the Prophet sent a message to him, saying. 'My daughter is dying; please come to us." The Prophet sent her his greetings and added "It is for Allah what He takes, and what He gives; and everything before His sight has a limited period. So she should hope for Allah's reward and remain patient." She again sent a message, beseeching him by Allah, to come. So the Prophet got up. and so did we (and went there). The child was placed on his lap while his breath was irregular. Tears flowed from the eyes of the Prophet. Sa`d said to him, "What is this, O Allah's Apostle?" He said. "This Is Mercy which Allah has embedded in the hearts of whomever He wished of His slaves. And Allah does not bestow His Mercy, except on the merciful among His slaves. (See Hadith No. 373 Vol. 2)

Hadith Commentary:
The relevance of this hadith to this chapter is evident: the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) went to visit his daughter, Zaynab (radi Allahu anha), whose child was in the throes of death. Upon seeing this, tears flowed from his eyes, and he described them as an expression of mercy.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) went to visit his granddaughter to inquire about her condition, who at that time was in the throes of death. Upon seeing her, the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) filled with tears.
Hazrat Sa'd bin Ubadah (radi Allahu anhu) thought that in such circumstances one should exercise patience, so what is the need to weep? In response, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
"This is Allah's mercy, and it is not contrary to patience.
This feeling is placed by Allah, the Exalted, in the hearts of those who show mercy to others."
(2)
With Allah, the Exalted, there are one hundred mercies.
Out of these, Allah, the Exalted, has placed one mercy among the jinn, mankind, animals, and insects, due to which they show kindness to one another—even wild animals show mercy to their young.
The remaining ninety-nine mercies Allah, the Exalted, will bestow upon His servants on the Day of Resurrection.
And Allah knows best.
