Narrated Abu `Ubaid: (in continuation of above). Then I witnessed (the 'Its) with `Ali bin Abi Talib, and he too offered the `Id prayer before the sermon and then delivered the sermon before the people and said, "Allah's Apostle has forbidden you to eat the meat of your sacrifices for more than three days."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
When Ali radi Allahu anhu led the Eid prayer and delivered the sermon, at that time Uthman radi Allahu anhu was besieged, and the turmoil had forced the villagers to come to Madinah Tayyibah. That year too, people were afflicted with severe hardship, so Ali radi Allahu anhu narrated the aforementioned hadith from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam so that the meat of the sacrifice (qurbani) would be fed to those suffering hardship.
If such circumstances arise again, then the guests among these people can be honored with the meat of the sacrifice.
(2)
It should be clear that this restriction is for those who have performed the sacrifice (qurbani); however, those who have received the meat of the sacrifice as a gift, the restriction of not keeping it for more than three days does not apply to them, as is explicitly stated in a hadith.
