بَابُ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ الإِنْسِيَّةِ:Chapter. (It is unlawful to eat) the meat of donkeys.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَدِيٌّ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ ، وَابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ ، قَالَا : " نَهَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ " .
Narrated Al-Bara' and Ibn Abi `Aufa: The Prophet prohibited the eating of donkey's meat.

Hadith Commentary:
This narration is extremely brief.
In another narration, there is some detail that on the day of Khaybar, hunger afflicted us, so people began slaughtering domestic donkeys and started cooking their meat.
During this, an announcer from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made an announcement: "Turn your pots upside down."
