Narrated `Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said that he met Zaid bin `Amr Nufail at a place near Baldah and this had happened before Allah's Apostle received the Divine Inspiration. Allah's Apostle presented a dish of meat (that had been offered to him by the pagans) to Zaid bin `Amr, but Zaid refused to eat of it and then said (to the pagans), "I do not eat of what you slaughter on your stonealtars (Ansabs) nor do I eat except that on which Allah's Name has been mentioned on slaughtering."

Hadith Commentary:
The text of the Qur’an: ﴿وَ مَا أُھِل لِغیرِ اللہ﴾ (al-Ma’idah: 3)
renders unlawful the meat of all those animals which are offered as a vow (nadhar) for the sake of drawing near to anyone other than Allah.
Included in this are also the goats dedicated to Madar and the animals set free in the name of Sayyid Salar, as is the custom among the people of innovation (ahl al-bid‘ah).
Baldah is a place in the Hijaz, near Makkah.
The Zayd ibn ‘Amr mentioned in the narration is the father of Sa‘id ibn Zayd, and Sa‘id is among the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise (al-‘asharah al-mubashsharah).

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In one narration, it is mentioned that the dining mat was presented to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
The way to reconcile these narrations is that the people of that place presented the dining mat to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as a gesture of hospitality and honor, and he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) then presented it to Zayd bin Amr. After that, Zayd addressed the people and said what he intended to say.
(2)
From this hadith, it is understood that any animal slaughtered in the name of idols is unlawful (haram).
The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is:
“That which is made famous by the name of other than Allah is also unlawful.” ( al-Baqarah: 173)
According to this verse, two types of animals fall under this ruling:
٭ Those animals that are made famous by the name of other than Allah, even if the name of Allah was mentioned at the time of slaughter.
٭ Those animals that are slaughtered in the name of other than Allah, whether it is in the name of a pir (spiritual leader) or a wali (saint).
In any case, any animal slaughtered at shrines is unlawful (haram), even if it is done in the name of Allah.
(3)
It should be noted that in the hadith, Zayd bin Amr is the father of Sa’id bin Zayd.
This noble person lived according to the religion of Ibrahim (alayhis salam) during the pre-Islamic era of ignorance, and his son, Sa’id (radi Allahu anhu), is among the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise (asharah mubashsharah).

Hadith Commentary:
It is narrated from Sa'id bin Zayd radi Allahu anhu that Zayd bin Amr and Waraqah bin Nawfal went to Syria in search of the true religion. Waraqah bin Nawfal, upon reaching there, became a Christian, but Zayd refused to accept Christianity. Then they came to Mosul, where a priest also invited them to become Christian, but he did not accept this offer either. (Fath al-Bari: 7/181)
