Hadith 5432

Narrated Abu Huraira: I used to accompany Allah's Apostle to fill my stomach; and that was when I did not eat baked bread, nor wear silk. Neither a male nor a female slave used to serve me, and I used to bind stones over my belly and ask somebody to recite a Qur'anic Verse for me though I knew it, so that he might take me to his house and feed me. Ja`far bin Abi Talib was very kind to the poor, and he used to take us and feed us with what ever was available in his house, (and if nothing was available), he used to give us the empty (honey or butter) skin which we would tear and lick whatever was in it.

Hadith Commentary: Ibn Munir said that since most containers usually contain honey, and in one narration this is explicitly mentioned—that is, a container of honey—therefore, the relevance to the chapter is established. It is as if Imam Bukhari rahimahullah alluded to this narration; a container of clarified butter (ghee) could also be intended.

Hazrat Ja'far ibn Abi Talib radi Allahu anhu was ten years older than Hazrat Ali radi Allahu anhu. He was the leader of the emigrants to Abyssinia. He returned to Madinah in the 7th year of Hijrah. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was at the Battle of Khaybar at that time, and he (Ja'far) also arrived there. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "I cannot say whether I am more pleased with the conquest of Khaybar or with the arrival of Ja'far." In the 8th year of Hijrah, he was martyred in the Battle of Mu'tah. There were more than ninety wounds from swords and spears on the front of his body. Both of his arms were severed from the root. His blessed age at the time of martyrdom was forty years.

Hadith Commentary:
Ibn Munir has stated that at that time, most jars contained honey, and in one narration, it is clarified that it was a jar of honey. In this way, this hadith corresponds to the chapter heading.
It is as if Imam Bukhari rahimahullah, through the chapter heading, has alluded to this particular narration.
