Hadith 5405

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet took out a bone with meat on it from a cooking pot and ate of it, and then offered the prayer without performing ablution anew.

Hadith Commentary:

➊ In terms of strength, eating such meat is more beneficial; this is also understood from the narration. ➋ It is also evident that after eating such meat, performing a new ablution (wudu) is not obligatory. However, a linguistic ablution (wudu lughawi)—that is, washing the mouth, rinsing the mouth, and cleaning the mouth—is necessary. This has been referred to as linguistic ablution.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Bread and the meat of the shoulder were presented to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and he ate three morsels from it.
From this narration, the type of meat and the quantity eaten are known.
(Fath al-Bari: 9/676) (2)
This heading has two components:
٭ Taking out half-cooked meat from the pot and eating it.
٭ Eating it by tearing it with the teeth.
From these ahadith, both components are established: that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) took out a bone with half-cooked meat from the pot and ate it by tearing it with his teeth.
In terms of strength, eating such meat is very beneficial.
(3)
It is also understood that after eating such meat, performing a new ablution (wudu) is not necessary; however, linguistic ablution, that is, washing the mouth and rinsing it, is necessary.
And Allah knows best.
