Narrated `Umar: The Prophet used to sell the dates of the garden of Bani An-Nadir and store for his family so much food as would cover their needs for a whole year.

Hadith Commentary:
From this, the purpose of the chapter is derived.
This act of gathering is not contrary to reliance (tawakkul) upon Allah.
This is an administrative matter, and it is obligatory upon the man to arrange for the sustenance and other necessities of his family and dependents.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The orchards of Banu Nadir were allocated specifically for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
He would set aside from them a year’s provision for his family and dependents, and sell the remainder for the needs of the state. From that money, he would purchase horses and military equipment.
Since the maintenance and provision (nafaqah) for one’s family and dependents is an obligation upon a person, he must make arrangements for it; that is, this is an administrative matter. Accumulating a year’s provision for them does not fall under the hoarding (ihtikar) that is prohibited in the ahadith.
There is consensus among all the scholars on this.
Then, from the accumulated wealth, one may continue to use as needed throughout the year; there is no set measure for how much should be spent in a single day.
This matter is entirely left to the discretion of the family members.
And Allah knows best.
