Narrated Abu Huraira: While we were sitting with Allah's Apostle, (he) Allah's Apostle said, "While I was sleeping, I saw a woman performing ablution beside a palace. I asked, "Whose palace is this?' It was said, 'This palace belongs to `Umar.' Then I remembered his sense of Ghira and returned." On that `Umar started weeping in that gathering and said, "O Allah's Apostle! How dare I think of my self-respect being offended by you?"
Explanation & Benefits

Hadith Commentary:
This weeping was out of joy, reflecting on Allah’s grace, bounty, and favor—that the Exalted has honored a humble one like me by preparing such a magnificent palace for me in the highest Paradise. That is why it was said: O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), I am but your lowly servant, and my wives, the houris and others, are all your maidservants. How could I possibly feel any jealousy towards you?

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In the first hadith, there was a possibility that perhaps the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) witnessed Paradise while awake, but the second hadith eliminated this possibility by clarifying that he entered Paradise not in a state of wakefulness, but in a dream. Imam Bukhari rahimahullah likely mentioned the second hadith for this reason. (Fath al-Bari: 9/404)
(2)
The weeping of Umar radi Allahu anhu was due to happiness, that Allah, the Exalted, out of His grace and bounty, bestowed such a favor upon this humble servant that a magnificent palace was prepared for him in the highest Paradise. He expressed his emotions because he was a servant of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and his wives and the maidens of Paradise are all his servants; so, under such circumstances, how could he possibly feel any jealousy regarding the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)? And Allah knows best.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
Both of these hadiths contain the great virtue of Umar radi Allahu anhu, that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw in a dream his palace in Paradise, in which his wife was performing ablution (wudu).
This ablution was to enhance her beauty, because in Paradise there is no continuation of fulfilling the legal rulings (shar‘i ahkam).
➋
The hadith of Jabir actually consists of three hadiths.
In it, there is mention of a woman named Rumaysa, who was the wife of Abu Talha radi Allahu anhu, the mother of Anas radi Allahu anhu, and the foster maternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Her name was Sahlah and her kunyah was Umm Sulaym.
➌
The weeping of Umar radi Allahu anhu was due to happiness and joy.
In one narration, Umar radi Allahu anhu said:
“O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam! It is because of you that we received guidance and this lofty status, so would I have been jealous of you?”
(Fath al-Bari: 7/57, 85)
➍
This hadith shows the virtue of Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha, and that she had deep interest in acts of worship.

Hadith Commentary:
You are indeed the guardian (wali) of all the believers and like a noble father to them.
Secondly, the dear daughter of Umar radi Allahu anhu, Hafsah radi Allahu anha, was in your marriage.
A son-in-law is as dear as one’s own son; who would feel jealousy over him?
The name of this wife of Umar radi Allahu anhu was Umm Sulaym; she was alive at that time.
In any case, seeing a palace in a dream is auspicious.

Hadith Commentary:
By bringing all these ahadith here, the purpose of the Imam is to establish the reality of Paradise (Jannah) and its blessings, and also to clarify that Paradise is not merely a matter of dreams and imagination, but rather it is a real and true entity which Allah, the Exalted, has already created, and all its aforementioned blessings truly exist.
In this regard, the Imam, while mentioning these various blessings, has argued for the different conditions and realities of Paradise.
Those people who, despite being Muslims, fall prey to any satanic whisperings regarding Paradise, should immediately repent and have faith and certainty in the statements of Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
From this, it is also understood that Paradise exists and has already been created.
There, the dwellings and provisions for every inhabitant of Paradise are all prepared.
The definite entry of Umar (radi Allahu anhu) into Paradise is also established from this hadith and from many other ahadith.
Umar (radi Allahu anhu) wept out of joy, and when he said, "Shall I be jealous over you?" its meaning is that you are my elder.
You are my mentor.
All my wives are your maidservants.
Jealousy is felt towards an equal, not towards a master and mentor.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
Performing ablution (wudu) in Paradise was not for the removal of dirt or impurity, because such things will not exist in Paradise that would need to be removed. Rather, the woman's ablution was so that her beauty would increase and her radiance would become even greater than before.
➋
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah's purpose is to show that Paradise is not merely an imaginary or fanciful thing, but rather it is an established reality that has already been created. There, the dwellings of every inhabitant of Paradise, along with their furnishings, are already prepared. Furthermore, this proves with certainty that Umar radi Allahu anhu is among the people of Paradise. Umar wept out of joy. The mention of "ghayrah" (protective jealousy) is included because: "You are my elder and my mentor; ghayrah is felt towards an equal, not towards one's master and mentor."
➌
In any case, Paradise still exists even now, and Allah has created it along with all its furnishings.

Hadith Commentary:
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw a woman performing ablution (wudu) in a dream; this is the relevance to the chapter. A woman who is seen in such a state is indeed very fortunate.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
This woman was Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha. When the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw her in Paradise in a dream, she was alive at that time. The interpretation of this is that she is certainly among the people of Paradise, because the scholars of dream interpretation say that if someone sees a person in Paradise, then that person will definitely enter Paradise—especially when the one seeing the dream is the most truthful and honest among all creation. Seeing her near the palace of Umar radi Allahu anhu means that she would remain alive until the caliphate of Umar radi Allahu anhu, and this is exactly what happened.
And Allah knows best.
(Fath al-Bari: 12/520)
➋
Indeed, the person who performs ablution (wudu) in a dream, or sees someone else performing ablution, is very fortunate.
May Allah the Exalted grant all of us goodness and blessings in this world and the Hereafter.
Ameen.

Commentary:
(1)
The dreams of the Prophets (alayhim as-salam) are revelation (wahy), therefore this dream is definitive evidence of the guaranteed entry of Umar (radi Allahu anhu) into Paradise.
(2)
By performing ablution (wudu) near the palace, it is most likely meant that she was performing ablution from the river in the garden attached to the palace.
In this way, it is as if she was within the palace itself.
And Allah knows best.
(3)
A leader should be mindful of the feelings of his companions, and in particular, he should consider their honor as his own honor.
(4)
From this, one can gauge the devotion and love that the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum), especially the senior Companions (radi Allahu anhum), had for the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
Since love for the Prophet is a part of faith (iman), the intensity of this love is also a sign of the strength and perfection of faith.
(5)
There will be no impurity or filth in Paradise, so certainly this ablution (wudu) will be for the sake of cleanliness and refinement.
