I advise you to treat women well, for they were created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its upper part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it, and if you leave it, it will remain crooked. Therefore, I advise you to treat women kindly.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The upper part of a woman is her head, in which is the tongue, and it is from her sharp tongue and obscene speech that a person suffers the most distress.
(2)
This hadith shows that there is crookedness in a woman's nature and temperament, and the way to benefit from her is to treat her well, to be patient with her crookedness, and not to be overly eager to straighten her. If she is left to her own devices, she will become even more corrupt; therefore, one should adopt moderation in dealing with her.
(3)
Allamah ‘Ayni rahimahullah says:
For a woman to be completely straight is among the impossibilities. If water passes over the head, then this rib is broken, meaning that by divorcing her, one can lighten the mental burden.
