Hadith Commentary: That is, one and a quarter seer or two seers of barley flour had been cooked.
It is true that "ad-deenu yusr"—indeed, the matter of religion is entirely easy. Therefore, in this dreadful era of inflation, it is the duty of the scholars to also give glad tidings of such easements to the people of Islam.

Hadith Commentary: (1) It is narrated from Umm Salamah radi Allahu anha that when the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam married her, he accommodated her in the house of Zaynab bint Khuzaymah radi Allahu anha. There, I saw some barley in a jug. I took it out, ground it, then put it in a pot and added some fat to it. This was the wedding feast (walimah) of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
(2) From this, it is understood that the walimah can be held even with a small amount of food. There is no fixed quantity prescribed for it. A person may arrange it according to his means. (Fath al-Bari: 9/298) However, the one who arranges more food for the walimah is superior, because in this way the announcement of the marriage is greater and it is a cause of blessing in family and wealth, as those who attend the walimah make abundant supplications. (Umdat al-Qari: 14/127)

Explanation: ➊ From this hadith, it is understood that in the case of different marriages, it is not necessary for the wedding feast (walimah) to be of the same kind. The walimah should be done according to the situation. ➋ The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sometimes slaughtered a goat for the walimah, and sometimes served sattu (roasted barley flour) and dates at the walimah. For the walimah of Umm Salamah (radi Allahu anha), he sufficed with just two mudd (a measure) of barley.
