Hadith 4995

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، سَمِعَ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " تَعَلَّمْتُ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْدَمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Narrated Al-Bara': I learnt, 'Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High' (Surat al-A'la) No 87, before the Prophet came (to Medina) .

Hadith Commentary:
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah’s intent is that Surah Al-A‘la is earlier in terms of revelation, because Bara’ bin ‘Azib radi Allahu anhu had memorized this surah even before the Hijrah. However, in the written copies of the Qur’an (masahif), its arrangement is much later; rather, it has been placed among the middle of the Mufassal surahs. Therefore, it is evident that the order of recitation is different from the order of revelation.
