Hadith 4938

انْكَدَرَتْ : انْتَثَرَتْ ، وَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ : سُجِّرَتْ : ذَهَبَ مَاؤُهَا فَلَا يَبْقَى قَطْرَةٌ ، وَقَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ : الْمَسْجُورُ الْمَمْلُوءُ ، وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ : سُجِرَتْ أَفْضَى بَعْضُهَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ ، فَصَارَتْ بَحْرًا وَاحِدًا وَالْخُنَّسُ تَخْنِسُ فِي مُجْرَاهَا تَرْجِعُ وَتَكْنِسُ تَسْتَتِرُ كَمَا تَكْنِسُ الظِّبَاءُ ، تَنَفَّسَ : ارْتَفَعَ النَّهَارُ وَالظَّنِينُ الْمُتَّهَمُ وَالضَّنِينُ يَضَنُّ بِهِ ، وَقَالَ عُمَرُ : النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ : يُزَوَّجُ نَظِيرَهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ ، عَسْعَسَ : أَدْبَرَ .
Imam Hasan al-Basri said the meaning of «سجرت‏» is that the seas will dry up, not a single drop of water will remain in them. Mujahid said the meaning of «مسجور» (which is in Surah at-Tur) is "full," and others said the meaning of «سجرت‏» is that the seas will burst forth and merge together to become one sea. «خنس» means "at the place of walking, then returning." «كنس» is derived from «تكنس», meaning "they hide like deer." «تنفس‏» means "when the day rises." «ظنين» (with ظاء mu'jamah, this is also a recitation) means "he accuses," and «ضنين» means "he is not stingy in conveying Allah's message." And 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said «النفوس زوجت‏» means "every person will be joined together, whether he is of Paradise or of Hell," then he recited this verse «احشروا الذين ظلموا وأزواجهم‏». «عسعس‏» means "when the night turns its back" or "when the darkness of night falls."
وَقَالَ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ خُثَيْمٍ : فُجِّرَتْ : فَاضَتْ وَقَرَأَ الْأَعْمَشُ وَعَاصِمٌ ، فَعَدَلَكَ : بِالتَّخْفِيفِ وَقَرَأَهُ أَهْلُ الْحِجَازِ بِالتَّشْدِيدِ وَأَرَادَ مُعْتَدِلَ الْخَلْقِ وَمَنْ خَفَّفَ يَعْنِي فِي أَيِّ صُورَةٍ شَاءَ إِمَّا حَسَنٌ ، وَإِمَّا قَبِيحٌ أَوْ طَوِيلٌ أَوْ قَصِيرٌ.
Rabi' bin Khuthaym said the meaning of «فجرت» is "He brought forth." Al-A'mash and 'Asim recited «فعدلك» with lightness (takhfif). The people of Hijaz recited «فعدلك» with a shaddah (emphasis) on the dal. When recited with shaddah, the meaning will be that He created with a great and appropriate form and in moderation; and if recited with takhfif, the meaning will be: in whatever form He wished, He made you—handsome or ugly, tall or short, of small stature.
وَقَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ : بَلْ رَانَ : ثَبْتُ الْخَطَايَا ، ثُوِّبَ : جُوزِيَ ، وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ : الْمُطَفِّفُ لَا يُوَفِّي غَيْرَهُ .
And Mujahid said that the meaning of «بل ران‏» is that sin has settled upon their hearts. «ثوب‏» means they were recompensed. Others said «مطفف» is the one who does not give full measure (acts deceitfully).
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة المطففين آية 6 ، حَتَّى يَغِيبَ أَحَدُهُمْ فِي رَشْحِهِ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ أُذُنَيْهِ " .
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: The Prophet said, "On the Day when all mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds, some of them will be enveloped in their sweat up to the middle of their ears."

In one narration it is stated:
"On the Day of Resurrection, the sun will come close to the people by the distance of a mile, so the people will be in sweat according to their deeds.
This sweat will reach the ankles of some, the knees of others, the waist of some, and for some it will be like a bridle—
that is, the sweat will reach up to their mouths."

Hadith Commentary:

This sweat will be personal to each individual, reaching up to half of their ears. On the Day of Resurrection, due to continuous fear and terror, the nearness of the sun, and the crowding of people, this sweat will occur.

In view of people’s deeds, this sweat will be more or less, as is evident from the following hadith: On the Day of Resurrection, the sun will come extremely close to the people until they will be drenched in sweat. For some people, the sweat will reach up to their ankles, for some up to the middle of their shins, for some up to their knees, for some up to their thighs, for some up to their waists, for some up to their shoulders, and for some up to their mouths, and for some, it will bridle their mouths. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam pointed towards his mouth with his hand. And some people will be submerged in sweat; the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam clarified this by striking his hand on his head. (Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim: 4/615)

Benefits and Issues:
➊ On the Day of Resurrection, the sun will be very close. Because of this, there will be a lot of sweating. However, this sweat will be more or less according to each person's sins.

➋ Some righteous people will be under the shade of the Throne (‘Arsh). At that time, there will be no shade except the shade of the Throne.

➌ The details of those who will attain the honor of the shade of the Throne are mentioned in a hadith as follows: a just ruler, a youth who remains engaged in the worship of Allah, one who loves the mosques (i.e., one who is devoted to prayer), one who loves a believer solely for the sake of Allah’s pleasure, one who rejects the invitation to immorality and thus protects his chastity, one who gives charity secretly, and one who remembers Allah in solitude and, expressing humility and meekness before Allah, sheds tears.
