Hadith 4919

Narrated Abu Sa`id: I heard the Prophet saying, "Allah will bring forth the severest Hour, and then all the Believers, men and women, will prostrate themselves before Him, but there will remain those who used to prostrate in the world for showing off and for gaining good reputation. Such people will try to prostrate (on the Day of Judgment) but their back swill be as stiff as if it is one bone (a single vertebra).

Hadith Commentary:
It is necessary to have faith in the apparent meaning of "shin" (saq).
The Ahl al-Hadith do not interpret the apparent words figuratively; rather, they consign their reality to Allah. They consider delving into such matters to be an innovation (bid‘ah). Just as Allah is, so is His "shin."
We believe in Allah as He is, with His names and attributes (āmanā billāh kamā huwa bi-asmā’ihi wa sifātihi), and we have faith in His essence and attributes as they are. We affirm the apparent meanings of His attributes and do not interpret them figuratively.
This is the straight path (hādhā huwa al-sirāt al-mustaqīm).

Hadith Commentary:

Imam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah states: I have studied more than one hundred books of tafsir, and I have not read regarding any Companion that they interpreted (made ta’wil of) any of the attributes of Allah, the Exalted.
Yes, regarding (يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاقٍ), there is a difference of opinion: some individuals take its meaning as “the removal of hardship,” but in view of the hadith narrated from Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri radi Allahu anhu, the meaning of this can be determined.
(Majmu‘ al-Fatawa: 6/394)

In any case, at this place, what is meant is not “the removal of hardship,” but rather that Allah, the Lord of Might and Majesty, will uncover His Shin, just as this is explicitly stated in the hadith.
And Allah knows best.
