Hadith 491

Hadith Commentary:
1.
Seventh Stage:
This stage is mentioned by the name of Dhu Tuwa.
Dhu Tuwa is the name of a place located at a little less than three miles from Makkah al-Mukarramah.
This is the last stage of the journey of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
He would stay here, then after performing the Fajr prayer, he would proceed to Makkah al-Mukarramah.
In these narrations, Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) has detailed the locations from Madinah al-Munawwarah to Makkah al-Mukarramah where the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) performed prayers during his journey.
Since ancient times, most of these locations have ceased to exist, but some locations are still identified and mosques have been built there.
And Allah knows best.
2.
Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has written, quoting Allamah Baghawi, that if a vow is made to pray in any of those mosques in which it is established that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) performed prayer, then that mosque becomes specified for action just like the three mosques, meaning it becomes obligatory to go to that mosque and perform the prayer there.
(Fath al-Bari: 1/738)
However, we do not agree with this position, because it is contrary to the hadith. Thus, Jabir (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, a companion said to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) that he had vowed that if Allah granted him the conquest of Makkah, he would perform two rak‘ahs of prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis.
He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“If you perform the prayer here in Makkah, your vow will be fulfilled.”
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Book of Oaths and Vows, Hadith: 3305)
3.
Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has mentioned here those mosques that come along the route from Madinah to Makkah, but there are several mosques in Madinah al-Munawwarah in which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) performed prayer. Since they did not meet Imam Bukhari’s (rahimahullah) conditions of authenticity, he did not mention them.
Some of these are:
Masjid Quba, Masjid Fath, Masjid Qiblatayn, Masjid Banu Qurayzah, Masjid Shams, Masjid Ijabah, Masjid Mashrabah Umm Ibrahim, and Masjid Baghlah, etc.
Apart from these, there are also some mosques whose traces no longer exist today.
Now, their mention is found only in books.
