Hadith Commentary:
➊
The mentioned condition is not exclusive to women; rather, men are also included in this condition, just as most of the rulings of the Shari‘ah are legislated with regard to men, but women are also included in them.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also stipulated this condition upon the Ansar during the Pledge of ‘Aqabah, as will be explicitly mentioned in a forthcoming hadith.
We will clarify this condition further ahead, by the permission of Allah, the Exalted.
➋
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has written:
“In well-known matters, not to disobey you (i.e., the Prophet) is specific to women; men are not included in this.”
(Fath al-Bari: 8/815)
However, according to our inclination, the first meaning is clearer.
And Allah knows best.
