Hadith Commentary:
➊
After hearing the reasoning of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu, the woman named Umm Ya'qub acknowledged that indeed the statement of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is the statement of Allah, and that whatever the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has prohibited is what Allah has prohibited.
This was the understanding of all the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma'in, which they had acquired from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam—that the Sunnah of the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is also a part of the Shari'ah.
➋
From this hadith, it is also understood that the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma'in considered the statements of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam as part of the Book of Allah. On this basis, whoever denies the authority of the Sunnah or hadith is, in reality, a denier of the Qur'an.
At this point, Hafiz Ibn Qayyim rahimahullah has said something very beautiful. He states:
"Our predecessors, when they would hear a hadith and also find its confirmation in the Book of Allah, would not say that this is an addition to the Book of Allah, so we do not accept it, nor are we willing to act upon it. Rather, in their hearts, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and his statements held great value and importance.
After hearing a hadith, they would strive to act upon it."
