Narrated Sa`id: I asked Ibn `Abbas about Surat Al-Hashr. He replied, "Say Surat An-Nadir."

Hadith Commentary:
In Surah At-Tawbah, the disgraceful conduct of the hypocrites has been described in great detail. The meaning of the statement of Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) is that this Surah has indeed humiliated many immoral people and has unveiled the reality of their condition. Due to their extreme piety and God-consciousness, the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) thought that perhaps this Surah would not spare anyone and would mention the circumstances of all, but in fact, it mentions the evil of the hypocrites and those who do not act upon Allah’s command.

Similarly, Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) did not consider it appropriate to call Surah Al-Hashr by the name "Hashr" because people’s minds might turn towards the Resurrection (Qiyamah), whereas by "Hashr" here is not meant the Resurrection, but rather it refers to the exile of Banu Nadir.

And Allah knows best.
