Hadith Commentary:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw Jibril (alayhis salam) in his original form only twice: once in the early period of Prophethood, which is mentioned in these verses, and the second time he saw him in his original form on the night of Mi'raj (Ascension).

Jibril (alayhis salam) had six hundred wings, and the distance between each was as great as that between the east and the west.
In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
"I was once walking along the path when I heard a voice from the sky. I looked up and saw the same angel who had come to me in the Cave of Hira; he was sitting on a chair between the heaven and the earth.
I became very frightened upon seeing him."
