Hadith 4751

وَقَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ : تَلَقَّوْنَهُ : يَرْوِيهِ بَعْضُكُمْ عَنْ بَعْضٍ ، تُفِيضُونَ : تَقُولُونَ .
Mujahid said that the meaning of «تلقونه» is that you began to transmit this matter to each other face to face. The word «تفيضون» (which is in Surah Yunus) is in the meaning of «تقولون», its meaning is "you used to say."
Narrated Um Ruman: Aisha's mother, When `Aisha was accused, she fell down Unconscious.

Hadith Commentary:
Khatib has objected to this narration, stating that its chain is disconnected because Umm Ruman radi Allahu anha passed away during the lifetime of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
At that time, Masruq was six years old. The response to this is that the statement which Ali ibn Zayd ibn Hudayjan has transmitted is itself weak.
The correct view is that Masruq heard from Umm Ruman during the caliphate of Umar radi Allahu anhu.
The hadith scholars Ibrahim Harbi and Abu Nu‘aym have also stated that Umm Ruman radi Allahu anha remained alive for a period after the passing of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

Hadith Commentary:

Its details are found in another narration: when the woman from the Ansar informed Umm Ruman radi Allahu anha of this incident, Aisha radi Allahu anha was also present there.
She asked:
"Has the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also heard these things?" The woman replied that yes, he has heard them. She then asked, "Has Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu come to know of it?" The woman said:
"Yes." Upon hearing this, Aisha radi Allahu anha fainted and fell down, and when she regained consciousness, she had a fever with chills.
Umm Ruman radi Allahu anha says that she covered her with clothes.
After this, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam came and asked, "What has happened to her?" I replied, "O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam! She has developed a fever with chills."
After this, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
"Perhaps she has heard of this storm of indecency?" Umm Ruman radi Allahu anha replied:
"Yes, she has heard it."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Maghazi, Hadith: 4143)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has narrated this report from Tabarani, that Aisha radi Allahu anha said:
"When I came to know of it, I intended to throw myself into a well and end myself."
(al-Mu'jam al-Awsat by Tabarani: 1/184 and Fath al-Bari: 8/592)
The relevance to the title is that both the verse and the hadith pertain to the incident of Ifk (the slander).
