Hadith Commentary:
The fabricator of this lie and the one who publicized it was this very hypocrite, Abdullah bin Ubayy. Due to this act, he became accursed.

Hadith Commentary:
Some narrations indicate that this verse refers to Hazrat Hassan bin Thabit radi Allahu anhu, but the preferred position is the one mentioned in the above hadith: that it refers to the chief of the hypocrites, Abdullah bin Ubayy, who would gather people, incite them, and take pleasure in discussing it, then with great cunning would distance himself and have others spread it. The Muslims, upon hearing his propaganda, would become hesitant; some would remain silent, while the majority of the believers, upon hearing such things, would reject them. The details of this incident will be mentioned ahead.
