Narrated `Abdullah: The Suras of Bani Israel, Al-Kahf, Mariyam, Taha and Al-Anbiya are from the very old Suras which I learnt by heart, and they are my first property.

Hadith Footnote:
The word "ameeq" (deep) is from Surah al-Hajj, verse: ﴿يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ﴾ (: al-Hajj: 27).
Perhaps the scribe mistakenly wrote it under Surah al-Anbiya.
No apparent contextual relevance is found; if any person of knowledge perceives one, please inform.
The servant will be grateful.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
‘Utaaq’ is the plural of ‘‘Ateeq’.
The Arabs refer to something that has reached the utmost level of excellence and refinement as ‘‘Ateeq’; furthermore, ‘‘Ateeq’ also means ancient.
Here, both meanings are correct.
‘Telaad’ refers to wealth that has been in the family since ancient times.
The intent of Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud radi Allahu anhu is that these surahs are among my ancient memorized possessions.
In any case, all five of these surahs are of the highest rank because each of them begins with a wondrous matter that is contrary to the usual norm. For example, Surah Bani Isra’il begins with the heavenly journey, and Surah Kahf begins with the story of the Companions of the Cave.
Similarly, Surah Maryam begins with the story of Zakariyya alayhis salam when he wished for a child in old age; moreover, the strange and wondrous story of Maryam alayhas salam is also mentioned in it.
Surah Ta-Ha contains the stories of Musa alayhis salam.
Surah Anbiya’ contains mention of the Day of Judgment and the story of Ibrahim alayhis salam.
And Allah knows best.
