Hadith 4683

Narrated `Amr: Ibn `Abbas recited:-- "No doubt! They fold up their breasts in order to hide from Him. Surely! Even when they cover themselves with their garments.." (11.5)

Hadith Commentary:

The meaning of these hadiths is that if, at the time of necessity, you feel shy before Allah Almighty in uncovering your body and thus bend down (out of modesty), then what about the times when you are taking off or putting on your clothes—are not your outward and inward states apparent before Allah at those times as well? When a person can never hide from Allah Almighty at any time, then it is not correct to act with such severity regarding matters of human necessity. Your sense of modesty and shyness is, in itself, very good, but excessiveness in this is not correct, because the very Being for whose sake you are doing this, you cannot hide from Him anyway—so what is the benefit of such affectations?

It should be noted that the well-known recitation is (يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ), but Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) recited it as (تَثْنَوْنِي صُدُورُهُمْ).
In the science of Qur’anic recitation, this is called a "rare recitation" (qira’ah shadhah).
And Allah knows best.
