Hadith Footnote:
As soon as Abdul Malik became caliph, he seized the territory of 'Ard from Ibn al-Zubayr, killed his brother Mus'ab, and then also conquered Mecca.
Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr (radi Allahu anhu) was martyred, and it happened exactly as Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) had said.
The attribution of the tribe of Tuwait is to Tuwait ibn Asad, and the attribution of the Usamat is to the Banu Usamah ibn Asad ibn Abd al-Uzza, and the attribution of the Humaydat is also to Humayd ibn Zuhayr ibn Harith.
All these families are united in their lineage to Ibn al-Zubayr’s grandfather, Khuwaylid ibn Asad.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The fact is that when Amir Muawiyah (radi Allahu anhu) passed away and his son Yazid assumed the government, Abdullah ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) refused to pledge allegiance to him. When Yazid died, Abdullah ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) invited people to pledge allegiance to himself; thus, the people of Hijaz, Egypt, Iraq, Khurasan, and most of the people of Sham pledged allegiance to him. At that time, Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) was in Makkah Mukarramah. Abdullah ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) called him and asked him to pledge allegiance, but he refused and said, "When all the people are united, then I will pledge allegiance." Abdullah ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) was harsh with him, because of which people also withdrew from pledging allegiance to him. When this news reached Mukhtar ibn Abu Ubayd al-Thaqafi, he sent an army and removed Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) from Makkah, and he took up residence in Ta’if. During this time, Ibn Abi Mulaykah said to Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu), "Why do you not pledge allegiance to him?" So he mentioned his praiseworthy qualities, which are stated in the hadith, then in a tone of complaint said: "Ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) did not care for us nor did he show any consideration for us. When he does not care for us, then if the Banu Umayyah, who are even closer to us, treat me well, it is acceptable to me. Moreover, their domain of rule is expanding day by day, whereas the domain of Ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) is shrinking rather than expanding."
➋
In any case, since this hadith mentioned Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (radi Allahu anhu), Imam al-Bukhari (rahimahullah) has mentioned it here.
And Allah knows best.
