Narrated Abu Wail: `Abdullah (bin Mas`ud) said, "None has more sense of ghaira than Allah therefore - He prohibits shameful sins (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly. And none loves to be praised more than Allah does, and for this reason He praises Himself." I asked Abu Wali, "Did you hear it from `Abdullah?" He said, "Yes," I said, "Did `Abdullah ascribe it to Allah's Messenger ?" He said, "Yes."

Hadith Commentary:
Ghayrah means zeal and modesty. A man has ghayrah regarding his wife, meaning he does not want non-mahram men to look at her; rather, he protects his wife from them. In other words, ghayrah is that a person does not tolerate anyone sharing in his beloved.
A person who possesses ghayrah is called ghayur. In contrast, there is the dayyuth, who does not feel any shame when strangers come and go to his wife, nor does he keep his wife protected in veiling (hijab). Allah Ta'ala, in view of such ghayrah, has declared all acts of indecency (fahisha) to be forbidden, as is explicitly stated in the aforementioned hadith. In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Allah Ta'ala feels the greatest ghayrah when He sees His servant, male or female, committing adultery (zina)."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Nikah, Hadith: 5221)
In another narration, it is explicitly mentioned that Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (radi Allahu anhu) narrated this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Nikah, Hadith: 5220)
