Hadith 4633

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that «كل ذي ظفر» refers to camels and ostriches. The word «الحوايا» means "stomach" (paunch), and someone else said regarding the meaning of «هادوا» that they became Jews. But in Surah Al-A'raf, the word «هدنا» means "we repented," and from this comes the word «هائد», which means "one who repents."

Hadith Commentary:
It appears that among the jurists of the Jews, it was a common practice to render the unlawful lawful through various legal stratagems, an example of which is mentioned here.
This is also a cause for concern for the jurists of Islam.

Hadith Commentary:

In another narration, there is a detailed account that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah announced:
"Allah, the Exalted, and His Messenger have declared the sale and purchase of alcohol, carrion, swine, and idols to be forbidden."
It was asked, "O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! What is your ruling regarding the fat of carrion, as it is used to grease ships, soften leather, and people also burn it for light in their homes?" He replied:
"No, it is forbidden."
After this, he described the conduct of the Jews.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Buyu', Hadith: 2236)

In any case, among the jurists of the Jews, it was a common practice to make forbidden things lawful through various legal stratagems (hiyal). An example of this has been mentioned in the above hadith. Regarding them, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) pronounced a warning that these people are accursed in the sight of Allah. For the jurists of Kufa, this hadith serves as a lesson and admonition.
