Narrated Anas: Abu Talha distributed the garden between Hassan and Ubai, but he did not give me anything thereof although I was a nearer relative to him.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Dawood Raz
Hadith Commentary:
The reason for this was that the mother of Anas (radi Allahu anhu) was married to Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu). Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) used to treat Anas (radi Allahu anhu) like his own son and did not consider him to be a stranger.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The mother of Anas (radi Allahu anhu), Umm Sulaym (radi Allahu anha), was married to Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu). For this reason, he considered Anas (radi Allahu anhu) as his own son, and it is likely due to this that he did not give him anything from the garden.
➋
In this hadith, what Anas (radi Allahu anhu) has said is not in the form of a complaint, but rather as a statement of the basis of entitlement. Accordingly, in another narration, this sentence of Anas (radi Allahu anhu) is present:
In terms of familial kinship, Hassan (radi Allahu anhu) and Ubayy ibn Ka‘b (radi Allahu anhu) were closer to Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) than I was.
Hassan (radi Allahu anhu) was related to Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) in the third generation, and Ubayy ibn Ka‘b (radi Allahu anhu) was related to him in the sixth generation.
