Hadith 449

Narrated Jabir: A woman said, "O Allah's Apostle! Shall I get something constructed for you to sit on as I have a slave who is a carpenter?" He replied, "Yes, if you like." So she had that pulpit constructed.

Hadith Commentary:

From the first narration, it is understood that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself requested for a pulpit (minbar) to be made, whereas from the second narration, it appears that the woman herself made the offer.
When the woman made the offer and there was no immediate need for the pulpit, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) left the preparation of the pulpit to the discretion of the woman.
When it had not yet been prepared and the need for it was felt, a message was sent for its preparation.
This explanation can also be given in such a way that initially the woman herself made the request, so the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “If it is your opinion, then fine.” Thus, when there was a delay in the preparation, as a reminder, he sent a message.
(Fath al-Bari: 1/703)

In the narration, only the carpenter and the preparation of the pulpit are mentioned; the permissibility of seeking help from craftsmen in the construction of the mosque has been analogized from this, because there is no difference between employing a carpenter and other craftsmen. Therefore, the permissibility of employing all kinds of craftsmen has been established.
Perhaps Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) in the chapter heading has alluded to those narrations in which it is explicitly mentioned to seek assistance from others in the construction of the mosque.
Thus, Hazrat Taliq bin Ali (radi Allahu anhu) says that he was constructing the mosque along with the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), so he said to the other companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in), “Pile up the clay near Yamami (radi Allahu anhu), for he is skilled in making clay and preparing bricks.”
(al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah, Musnad al-Imam Ahmad: 39/463)
In another narration, it is mentioned that during the construction of the mosque, he was making the clay mixture, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) greatly liked his work.
He said, “Assign the clay work to him, for he appears to be an expert in it.”
(al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah, Musnad al-Imam Ahmad: 39/465–466)
