وَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هُمْ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُمْ " .
And Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that the Ash'ari people are from me and I am from them.
Narrated Abu Musa: My brother and I came from Yemen (to Medina) and remained for some time, thinking that Ibn Masud and his mother belonged to the family of the Prophet because of their frequent entrance (upon the Prophet) and their being attached to him.

Hadith Commentary:
Abu Musa Ash‘ari (radi Allahu anhu) came to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) at the time of the Battle of Khaybar along with his brother. His brother’s kunyah is Abu Rahm and Abu Burdah.
Similarly, the name of Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud’s (radi Allahu anhu) mother is Umm ‘Abd bint ‘Abdud (radi Allahu anha).
From this hadith, the virtue of Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (radi Allahu anhu) and his noble mother is known. These personalities would frequently visit the house of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), to the extent that a stranger would think that they were among the family and members of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
