Hadith Commentary:

Fasting makes a person weak, which is particularly detrimental for jihad. This is why the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself did not fast, nor did the Companions (radi Allahu anhum), and the same ruling was established for general travel as well, as mentioned in the Noble Qur’an:

“But if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days.” That is, whoever is ill should fast after regaining health, and whoever is a traveler should fast after returning.

Hadith Commentary:
➊ Qudayd is the name of a settlement consisting of springs and gardens, whereas Kadeed is a spring located sixteen miles from it, and this spring is near Makkah.

➋ Fasting causes a person to become weak, which is detrimental for jihad; therefore, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not fast during this journey in Ramadan, nor did he command his noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) to fast. The same ruling applies to ordinary travel as well, as is explicitly stated in the Noble Qur’an. ()
