Hadith 422

Narrated Anas: I found the Prophet in the mosque along with some people. He said to me, "Did Abu Talha send you?" I said, "Yes". He said, "For a meal?" I said, "Yes." Then he said to his companions, "Get up." They set out and I was ahead of them.

Hadith Commentary:
This heading consists of two parts.
One is giving an invitation, and the other is accepting an invitation—both of these actions can take place in the mosque.
Accordingly, Anas (radi Allahu anhu) presented a food invitation to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) right in the mosque, and the acceptance of the invitation by the invitee also took place in the mosque. In reality, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) wants to establish in these chapters that not every kind of conversation is prohibited in the mosque, because there is no dispute regarding the permissibility of conversations directly related to the mosque itself.
If the conversation is not related to the mosque, then it is permissible to the extent of necessity.
For example, if someone, while sitting in the mosque, extends an invitation and it is accepted right there, then this is allowed, because such speech is permissible to the extent of necessity.

Note:
Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) will mention this hadith in full in the Book of Virtues (Hadith 3578), therefore, other related discussions will also be presented there,
by the permission of Allah, the Exalted.
