Hadith 4208

Narrated Abu `Imran: Anas looked at the people wearing Tailsans (i.e. a special kind of head covering worn by Jews in old days). On that Anas said, "At this moment they (i.e. those people) look like the Jews of Khaibar."

Hadith Commentary: Hafiz Ibn Hajar states that perhaps these people would often wear cloaks, and the other people whom Anas (radi Allahu anhu) had seen did not wear cloaks in such abundance. Therefore, they were likened to the Jews. This does not indicate the dislike (karahah) of wearing a cloak. Some have said that Anas (radi Allahu anhu) objected to wearing cloaks of two colors, but Tabarani has narrated from Umm Salamah (radi Allahu anha) that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would often dye his cloak and lower garment (izar) with saffron or wars. Some have said that these people would wear cloaks in the manner of the Jews, that is, by placing them over the back and shoulders and letting both ends hang down, without turning them over. Anas (radi Allahu anhu) objected to this. In another hadith, it is stated: "Oppose the Jews."

Hadith Commentary:

(Tayalisah, Taylasan)
is the plural form.
By this is meant the small yellow-colored cloak that is worn over the head.
The Jews of Khaybar used to wear such cloaks in abundance, whereas among other people it was not customary to wear them.
When Anas radi Allahu anhu came to Basrah and saw that people were frequently wearing such cloaks, he likened them to the Jews of Khaybar.
(Fath al-Bari: 7/594.
‘Umdat al-Qari: 17/324, Dar al-Kutub al-‘Ilmiyyah edition)

The apparent purpose of presenting this narration is either to prevent the people of Basrah from resembling the Jews of Khaybar, or to inform about Anas radi Allahu anhu’s participation in the Battle of Khaybar.
And Allah knows best.
