Hadith Commentary:

The prohibition of eating the flesh of donkeys occurred at Khaybar.

The purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah in citing this hadith is to establish that Zahir bin Aswad al-Aslami radi Allahu anhu participated in the Pledge of Ridwan (Bay‘at al-Ridwan). Furthermore, it is also intended to clarify regarding Uhban bin Aws radi Allahu anhu that he was among the Companions of Hudaybiyyah.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has written about him in his al-Tarikh al-Kabir that he was a Companion (Sahabi) and resided in Kufa.
He was among his goats when a sheep came to him, conversed with him, and encouraged him towards faith.
In Sahih al-Bukhari, only this single hadith is narrated from him.
