Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has narrated this hadith to the extent of necessity.
Imam Muslim rahimahullah has narrated the complete hadith, the wording of which is as follows:
“Whoever swears a false oath by a religion other than Islam, he is as he has said. Whoever kills himself will be punished in the same manner until the Day of Resurrection, and it is not valid for a person to vow something of which he is not the owner.”
(Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Iman, Hadith: 302(110))
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has also narrated this hadith, but it does not contain the wording regarding pledging allegiance under the tree. Furthermore, it contains the warning against falsely accusing a believer.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Iman wa’l-Nudhur, Hadith: 6652)
