Hadith 4170

Narrated Al-Musaiyab: I met Al-Bara bin `Azib and said (to him). "May you live prosperously! You enjoyed the company of the Prophet and gave him the Pledge of allegiance (of Al-Hudaibiya) under the Tree." On that, Al- Bara' said, "O my nephew! You do not know what we have done after him (i.e. his death).

Hadith Commentary:
Those who pledged allegiance at Ridwan were granted the certificate of Allah’s pleasure. Allah the Exalted says:
“Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree.” ( al-Fath: 17/48)
Despite this, these noble companions, out of humility and self-effacement, used to say that after the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), we became entangled in tribulations.
It is possible that the intention here is to refer to the disputes that arose after the martyrdom of Umar (radi Allahu anhu).
In any case, despite receiving glad tidings, these noble companions continued to fear Allah the Exalted.
