Hadith 4156

Narrated Mirdas Al-Aslami: Who was among those (who had given the Pledge of allegiance) under the Tree: Pious people will die in succession, and there will remain the dregs of society who will be like the useless residues of dates and barley and Allah will pay no attention to them.

Hadith Commentary:

The implication of the hadith is that as the Day of Judgment approaches, righteous people will depart from this world one by one.
After their passing, only inferior people will remain.

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has narrated this report as mawquf (stopped at the Companion) at this place, whereas in the Book of Riqaq he has narrated it as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Riqaq, Hadith: 6434)
And he has established a chapter with these words:
(BAB DHABAABI AL-SAALIHEEN)
“Chapter: The Departure of the Righteous from the World.”

The purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah is to clarify regarding Hazrat Mirdas al-Aslami radi Allahu anhu that none of the Companions of the Tree (Ashab al-Shajarah) will enter the Fire.
(Sahih Muslim, Fada’il al-Sahabah, Hadith: 6404(2496))
In one narration, this glad tidings is given to the participants of the Battle of Badr and the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
(Sahih Muslim, Fada’il al-Sahabah, Hadith: 6403(2495))
