Hadith 4118

Narrated Anas: As if I am just now looking at the dust rising in the street of Banu Ghanm (in Medina) because of the marching of Gabriel's regiment when Allah's Apostle set out to Banu Quraiza (to attack them).

Hadith Commentary:
When the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) learned of the treachery of Banu Qurayzah, he sent Sa’d ibn Mu’adh (radi Allahu anhu), Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah (radi Allahu anhu), ‘Abdullah ibn Rawahah (radi Allahu anhu), and Khawwat ibn Jubayr (radi Allahu anhu) to ascertain the reality of the situation.

When these companions reached Banu Qurayzah, they found them intent on extreme wickedness; they began to utter vile insults and showed disrespect to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Accordingly, these companions indicated to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) through gestures that they were determined upon their breach of covenant.

During this time, Jibril (alayhis salam) arrived and said:
O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! Set out towards Banu Qurayzah with your companions to inflict a decisive blow upon them; I am going ahead of you.

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“My companions are exhausted from fatigue.”
Jibril (alayhis salam) said:
You should proceed towards them; I will cause an earthquake in their fortresses and cast terror and dread into their hearts.

Having said this, he set out towards Banu Qurayzah along with other angels.

At that time, Anas (radi Allahu anhu) described the scene of the dust rising from the horses of the angels.

Jibril (alayhis salam) and the other angels were in human form.

Anas (radi Allahu anhu) and ‘A’ishah (radi Allahu anha) recognized them either because the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) informed them or through signs and indications.
