Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet said, "I have been made victorious by As-Saba (i.e. an easterly wind) and the Ad nation was destroyed by Ad-Dabur (i.e. a westerly wind).

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The wind that blows from the east is called "Saba," and the wind that blows from the west is called "Dabur."
➋
When the disbelievers besieged Madinah Tayyibah, the Saba wind blew. The disbelievers could not withstand it and fled. Allah the Exalted has mentioned this wind in these words:
“When the armies came upon you from above you and from below you, We sent upon them a wind and armies you did not see.” ()
This wind was extremely cold and so strong that it uprooted the tents of the disbelievers. The ropes of the horses snapped, and they ran away. Cooking pots were broken and scattered. It was so cold that it seemed to pierce and pass through the body.
This caused panic and chaos in the army of the disbelievers, resulting in them abandoning the battlefield and fleeing.
(Fath al-Bari: 7/502)
Hazrat Abu Sa‘id Khudri (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that on the day of the Trench (Khandaq), he came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and said:
“O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! Our hearts have reached our throats due to anxiety. Please teach us a supplication that we may recite.” So he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) taught this supplication:
(اللَّهُمَّ اسْتُرْ عَوْرَاتِنَا ، وَآمِنْ رَوْعَاتِنَا)
“O Allah! Conceal our faults and grant us safety from fear.”
At that time, Allah the Exalted sent upon the disbelievers a harshly cold and extremely strong wind, which they could not withstand and were forced to abandon the battlefield.

Hadith Commentary:
On the occasion of the Battle of Ahzab, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was aided by the east wind (Bād al-Ṣabā), and the people of ‘Ād were destroyed by the west wind, which blew continuously for eight days and seven nights.
That wind was so violent that it was even beyond the control of the angels appointed over the winds, and that rebelliousness was by Allah’s command and His permission.
May Allah protect us from it.

Hadith Commentary:
During the Battle of Khandaq (the Trench), twelve thousand disbelievers surrounded Madinah from all sides. Eventually, Allah sent a wind with such force that their tents were uprooted. The fires were extinguished, and dust entered their eyes, causing the disbelievers to become distressed and flee in panic. The indication of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) here is towards that very wind.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The wind that blows from the eastern direction is called "Bād-e-Sabā" (the morning breeze).
It is also called "Qabūl" (acceptance) because it becomes a means of help and support for those who accept the truth.
A practical demonstration of this occurred during the Battle of Khandaq, when twelve thousand (12,000) disbelievers besieged Madinah Munawwarah.
Allah, the Exalted, sent the Bād-e-Sabā, which caused the disbelievers to become distressed and flee.
(2)
The purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah in mentioning the above title and the presented hadith is to show that not every type of wind was a cause of distress for the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam; rather, he would be pleased when this type of wind blew.
Fear would only overcome him when the western wind blew, because this wind was generally a precursor to Allah’s punishment.

Hadith Commentary:
The east wind (bad-e-saba) blows from the direction of the east, and the west wind (pichham) comes from the direction of the west. It is as if the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), through this noble statement, indicated towards the following verse of the Noble Qur’an:
﴿فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا وَجُنُودًا لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا﴾ “So We sent upon them a wind and armies you did not see.” (: al-Ahzab: 9)
Allah, the Exalted, destroyed the disbelievers through this wind and aided the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
(Fath al-Bari: 6/363)
This wind was so fierce that it uprooted the enemy’s tents, snapped the ropes of their horses, broke their pots and pans, extinguished their fires, and the wind was so cold that it seemed to pierce through the bodies of the disbelievers and pass right through them.
And Allah knows best.
